GREEN "TIDAL" WAVE COAST THROUGH PLAYOFFS
Warner won a play-in opening round game while Calvary and Lopez both advanced easily in the Round of 16. Warner ran up against a too-tough Miami Palmetto squad to be eliminated in the Round of 16. Calvary faced Lake Highland Prep in the Quarterfinals who had previously handed them a 30-pt defeat, but the tables were turned as a very inspired effort led by PG Cam Hadley turned a 1st half 10 pt deficit into a 6 pt victory to move Calvary to the Final 4. Unfortunately we would not have an all-County Finals as Lopez and Calvary met in the Semifinals. Calvary jumped out to a 5 pt halftime lead, but unfortunately ran out of steam, as a much deeper Lopez side owned the 2nd half for a comfortable win.
In the Finals, Lopez faced a Miami Southwest squad that had lost only once so far, but again Lopez' superior depth and team play, especially from SF Taylor Crimmins (the Camp 3-Pt Shooting Champion) and PF Brandon Serle led them to an easier than expected double digit victory to take home the crown.

DELAND FAVORITES @ LAKE MARY PREP SUMMER LEAGUE PLAYOFFS
The DeLand Bulldogs have engineered an 8-0 record in the LMP Summer League despite playing with an inconsistent roster, missing some key football players. They have been able to win close games with exellent defense and now will try to become the champions in Season 2 of the League. Atlantic, the defending league champions, have dropped 3 razor-close contests and will be the 3-seed. Spruce Creek started slow but is playing better as of late and earned the 4-seed, while Pine Ridge and Trinity Christian will face off in the 8 vs 9 game, with the winner getting DeLand.
The full schedule is posted to the right.

BEST WAY TO PROMOTE AREA PLAYERS DISCUSSION
I would very much like to hear opinions from area coaches on how to best use this resources to promote our area players. One thing I dont think I want to do is a "ranking" since those are subjective. However, I was thinking of a list for each class, and for each player with college aspirations include a short bio and their statistics, along with any college offers received to that point. Id love to hear more opinions on this either by email or on the message board.

ERAU/LMP Roundup
ERAU Playoffs begin today and 2 local teams have a chance to defend home turf.
Yesterday saw Father Lopez handle Lemon Bay with ease. Lopez has assembled a legitimate squad this year with many scoring options. Calvary Christian looked fatigued in a big loss to Lake Highland Prep, though it does not diminish their solid week of play. Warner faced Miami Southwest, and played tough, but fell in a close match.
Lopez and Calvary have earned high seeds and should have favorable enough draws to make a deep run in today's camp playoff. Warner has its work cut out for it, having to play the opening round early in the morning.
Good luck to our 3 local programs!

At the Lake Mary Prep Summer League, DeLand and Atlantic continue to top the standings, both hanging on for closer than it should have been wins over Sanford Seminole and the hosts Lake Mary Prep respectively, while Spruce Creek dispatched Pine Ridge. Today begins the final regular season day of the league with the playoffs coming next week.

Introduction
Welcome to what I hope will be one small step/giant leap for high-school basketball here in the Volusia/Flagler area. Neil Armstrong I am not, but I am John Joffey, assistant coach at Atlantic HS for the last 3 years, and just a big fan of coaching, watching, and playing basketball.
"Why create this blog? Why are you doing this"
A few reasons
1)The local media coverage of high-school basketball is underwhelming, to put it nicely. The Sentinel technically includes Volusia County in its "Varsity" section, but rarely ventures out here for real coverage, and the News-Journal's cutbacks have led to far decreased coverage of stats, records, and games that leaves alot to be desired when it comes to basketball.
2)There is no Major AAU team in the area. Sure there are quite a few USSSA teams and smaller squads, and while their efforts are to be commended and most are good people with the right intentions, but the fractionalization of talent between all of these teams combined with the "superstars" going to play for Team Stat or another statewide big dog team doesnt really help. It would be nice to have at least 1 bigtime AAU program located HERE that helps get OUR kids maximum exposure. (And if you agree here, please email me, as I know of a few people who would love to hear any ideas or offers of help)
3)I want to use this blog as an outlet, from me, a local basketball "insider", and for my fellow coaches, players, and fans, to help student-athletes in this area in any way. I want to have fully updated year round schedules, stats, results, etc. I will post athlete videos sent to me, and Id love to get input from other coaches. Basically I am open to anything.
The bottom line is we should not and no longer need to rely on the traditional media for coverage! No more complaining, now we are doing something about it!
"But you are a biased source since you coach at an area school"
While I will offer opinions on this site, I will do my best to avoid conflicts of interest. One thing that helps is that Atlantic is not in the Mega-District with the 8 6A schools, so really, I am completely neutral when it comes to reporting there as I have no ties to any of those schools or the local private schools whatsoever. This is NOT a blog for me to stand on a pedestal and rant and rave. I am not Rush Limbaugh.
"When can we expect updates?"
Hopefully at the LEAST...several times a week! I am getting started right away, as I will be attending the Embry-Riddle Week Camp to catch some action. While Atlantic wont be (we are doing the Weekend Camp in a few weeks) Im sure several area teams will be in attendence and I will be reporting on it. This blog is going to be a year-round resource of information!
I tried to answer the 3 questions Id expect most people have. If you have one for me, feel free to post a comment or email me. Id love to hear constructive comments and ideas from anybody!
